Significance of cap in islam?
Answer:
بسم
الله الرحمن
الرحيم
We begin with Allah’s blessed name, we praise him and we glorify him, seek his forgiveness and ask him to guide us. Whoever Allah guides, None can lead astray and whoever he misguides, None can guide. There is no power and no strength except from Allah, The most high, the Most great, the most powerful. We bear witness that there is no one worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers. We pray for peace and blessings on all the noble messengers and in particular on the last of them all “the blessed prophet Mohammad (pbuh)”
Wearing a cap is not obligatory for a Muslim man, but it is the Sunnah. During the time of the prophet Mohammad (pbuh) it was common to cover the head with turban and our beloved prophet (pbuh) used to cover his head most of the time. As it is clear in the narrations below:
Narrated Ja'far bin 'Amr:
My father said, "I saw the Prophet passing wet hands over his turban and Khuffs (leather socks)."
SAHIH AL-BUKHARI[Book 1 ,Vol. 4 , Hadith 204]
Narrated Anas ibn Malik:
I saw the Messenger (peace_be_upon_him) perform ablution. He had a Qutri turban. He inserted his hand beneath the turban and wiped over the forelock, and did not untie the turban.
ABU DAWUD[Book 1 , Hadith 147]
Ibn Mughira narrated it from his father:
The Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) wiped over his socks and over his forehead and over his turban.
SAHIH MUSLIM[Book 2 , Hadith 532]
Narrated byAbdullah ibn Umar
When Allah's Messenger put on a turban he let the end hang between his shoulders.
Al-Tirmidhi[Hadith: 4338]
From the above narrations it is clear that our beloved prophet Mohammad (pbuh) used to cover his head, thus it becomes Sunnah for the Muslims and we have to strive to follow our beloved prophet (pbuh) in every respect, as Allah says in the quran:
"There is indeed the best model for you in the Messenger of Allah, for every such person looks forward to Allah and the Last Day, and remember Allah much". Quran[33:21]
Say (O Mohammad SAW to mankind): "If ye do love Allah, Follow me: Allah will love you and forgive you your sins: For Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."[Quran 3:31]
Say (O Mohammad SAW to mankind): "Obey Allah and His Messenger.: But if they turn back, Allah loves not those who reject Faith.[Quran 3:32]
He who obeys the Messenger, obeys Allah. But if any turn away, We have not sent thee(Mohammad SAW) to watch over their (evil deeds). [Quran 4:80]
The prophet Mohammad (pbuh) said that he who loves my Sunnah, and then no doubt he loves me, as in the narration below:
Narrated byAnas ibn Malik
Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said to me: My son, if you are in a position to pass your morning and evening keeping your heart free from malice against anyone, then act according to it (this high ideal). He then said: My son, and that is my Sunnah and he who loves my Sunnah, in fact loves me and he who loves me, will be with me in Paradise.
AL-TIRMIDHI[Hadith:175]
so we Muslims should strive to love & implement the sunnah of our beloved prophet Mohammad (pbuh) and covering head is a sunnah of prophet Mohammad (pbuh) which distinguish us from the unbelievers, and Allah wanted us to fallow in every respect the prophet Mohammad (pbuh), as Allah calls prophet Mohammad (pbuh) a perfect role model for the believers and also Allah likes the mark of his favour on his servants as reported in this narration:
Narrated byAbdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As
Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said, "Allah likes the mark of His favour to be seen on His servant. "
AL-TIRMIDHI[Hadith: 4350]
Regarding that, is prayer valid if one prays with out covering his head? The answer is yes Wearing a covering on the head while offering his prayers or while reciting the Quran is not amongst the obligatory acts for a believing male in Shariah. If one covers his head, or leaves it uncovered; both ways his prayers and his worship will be considered valid. But if one fallows the sunnah of covering the head then it will be more better and closer to the prayers of prophet(pbuh).
May Allah guide us to the right path
I ask Allah to make this a sincere effort, seeking his pleasure, and I ask him to grant us refuge in him from the evils within ourselves, and that in our deeds. I ask him to grant us success in achieving whatever pleases him; And May Allah Shower His blessings and mercy upon our beloved Prophet
Muhammad (pbuh), his family and his Companions and on all those who follow him until the final hour.
