Question & Answer
Giving zakah to poor family?

If some one have house for own living, husband make zero money , wife doesn't make any money , son make minimum amount of money can we give zakat to that family plus they are our relative.

Answer:

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

We begin with Allah’s blessed name, we praise him and we glorify him, seek his forgiveness and ask him to guide us. Whoever Allah guides, None can lead astray and whoever he misguides, None can guide. There is no power and no strength except from Allah, The most high, the Most great, the most powerful. We bear witness that there is no one worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers. We pray for peace and blessings on all the noble messengers and in particular on the last of them all “the blessed prophet Mohammad (pbuh)”

Allah Says in the glorious Quran: Alms are for the poor, and the needy, and those employed to administer the (funds), for those whose hearts have been (recently) reconciled (to the Truth), for those in bondage and in debt, in the Cause of Allah, and for the wayfarer: (thus is it) ordained by Allah and Allah is full of Knowledge and Wisdom. Quran[9:60]

Dear sister, if the family falls in any of the category mentioned in the above verse (ie the family is really poor and needy), then there is absolutely no harm in giving ‘zakah‘ to them.

The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: "Charity for the poor is rewarded as one good deed; but in the case of a relative it is considered as two: [one reward for helping] blood ties, and [the other reward for] the charity [itself]." Related by Ahmad, an-Nasa'i, and at-Tirmidhi.

There is absolutely no doubt that ones poor and needy relatives have a bigger right that ‘sadaqah’ and ‘zakah’ dues be spent on them and in addition giving zakat to the relatives earns double reward. And Allah alone knows the best.

I ask Allah to make this a sincere effort, seeking his pleasure, and I ask him to grant us refuge in him from the evils within ourselves, and that in our deeds. I ask him to grant us success in achieving whatever pleases him; And May Allah Shower His blessings and mercy upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), his family and his Companions and on all those who follow him until the final hour.
