Question & Answer
How to celebrate death anniversary in Islamic way?

Answer:

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

We begin with Allah’s blessed name, we praise him and we glorify him, seek his forgiveness and ask him to guide us. Whoever Allah guides, None can lead astray and whoever he misguides, None can guide. There is no power and no strength except from Allah, The most high, the Most great, the most powerful. We bear witness that there is no one worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers. We pray for peace and blessings on all the noble messengers and in particular on the last of them all “the blessed prophet Mohammad (pbuh)”

Dear brother, There is absolutely no evidence that the blessed prophet Mohammad (pbuh), or any of his companions ever celebrated the death anniversary of any human being.

Allah says in the glorious Quran: We have sent you (O Mohamed) as a Messenger to mankind, and Allah’s witness suffices for this. Whoever obeys the Messenger, in fact obeys Allah, and whoever turns away from him, he will be accountable for his deeds. Anyhow, we have not sent you (O Mohamed) to be a guardian over them. Quran [4:78-79]

Dear brother, an act will only be considered ‘Islamic’ if and only if it is endorsed by Allah and His Messenger (pbuh). The celebration of death anniversaries of deceased! Without an iota of a doubt, is no more than an innovation (bidah) which have unfortunately crept into Islam.

Dear brother, One can understand the enormity of the crime of introducing the innovations into the perfect deen of Islam from this narration.

The Prophet of Allah (saws) said:If anyone introduces an innovation, he will be responsible for it. If anyone introduces an innovation or gives shelter to a man who introduces an innovation (in religion), he is cursed by Allah, by His angels, and by all the people. ABU DAWUD[Book 39 : Hadith 4515] And Allah alone knows the best.

I ask Allah to make this a sincere effort, seeking his pleasure, and I ask him to grant us refuge in him from the evils within ourselves, and that in our deeds. I ask him to grant us success in achieving whatever pleases him; And May Allah Shower His blessings and mercy upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), his family and his Companions and on all those who follow him until the final hour.
