Question & Answer
How to pray proper salah?

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

We begin with Allah’s blessed name, we praise him and we glorify him, seek his forgiveness and ask him to guide us. Whoever Allah guides, None can lead astray and whoever he misguides, None can guide. There is no power and no strength except from Allah, The most high, the Most great, the most powerful. We bear witness that there is no one worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers. We pray for peace and blessings on all the noble messengers and in particular on the last of them all “the blessed prophet Mohammad (pbuh)”

The prayer is a type of worship consisting of specific statements and actions. It is begun by pronouncing the greatness of Allah, and is concluded with salutations of peace. As prayer is the essence of Islam, we will discuss it here in detail.

  1. Face towards qiblah, with the intention (in the heart) of performing particular prayer.
  2. Then raises both hands up to the level of the shoulders or near the lobes of the ears, pronounces the "Takbiiratil-Ihraam" by saying "ALLAHU AKBAR", meaning Allah is the Greatest and place both hands on the chest with the right hand over the left.
  3. By reciting the "Takbiiratil-Ihraam", the person thus, signals the start of prayer and enters into a state of worship, here one should call to mind the majesty and glory of the lord of worlds, and should recite, prostrate or bow only to please Allah and one should try his best to not let his attention distracted during the prayer.
  4. The person then recites in a low voice an opening supplication for the prayer. Know more about opening supplications
  5. Recite Surah Al Fateha and any other aayahs from the Quran. (minimum 3 aayahs).
  6. Go into RUKU or bowing and say: “Subhan Allah il Adheem” Glory be to Allah, the Most Great. 3 times or more (but preferably in odd number formations, 3,5,7,9….)
  7. Stand up from the RUKU and say: “Sameh Allah ho Leman Hameda” Allah listen to the one who is grateful for the bounties received by Allah. And muqtadies say: “Rabbana lakal hamd” O our Lord, we are grateful to you.
  8. Go into the prostration or Sajdah and pray: “Surhana Rabb eil A’ala” Glory be to Allah, the Most High. (3 times or more in odd number formation 3,5,7,9…)
  9. Rise from the sajdah , here in sitting position one can invoke any prayer to Allah.
  10. Again go into the prostration or Sajdah and pray: “Surhana Rabb eil A’ala” Glory be to Allah, the Most High. (3 times or more in odd number formation 3,5,7,9…) {in this way the first rakah is compleated}
  11. Similarly another rakah will be performed. {Go to step: 5}
  12. And finally one should sit for the Tashahud : Know How to recite tashud?
  13. After tashahud pronounce tasleem , first on right side and then to left side. Tasleem signals the end of prayer.

This is a short and concise description of the prayers. And Allah alone knows the best.

I ask Allah to make this a sincere effort, seeking his pleasure, and I ask him to grant us refuge in him from the evils within ourselves, and that in our deeds. I ask him to grant us success in achieving whatever pleases him; And May Allah Shower His blessings and mercy upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), his family and his Companions and on all those who follow him until the final hour.
