Travelling with non-mahrem?
Asalamualykum sir, I am studying outside the state of jammu and Kashmir, and I had to travel with some class mates who are male, these guys are good in character and I feel no danger while traveling with them. What is your opinion on that? Jazakala khar
We begin with Allah’s blessed name, we praise him and we glorify him, seek his forgiveness and ask him to guide us. Whoever Allah guides, None can lead astray and whoever he misguides, None can guide. There is no power and no strength except from Allah, The most high, the Most great, the most powerful. We bear witness that there is no one worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers. We pray for peace and blessings on all the noble messengers and in particular on the last of them all “the blessed prophet Mohammad (pbuh)”
Dear sister, it is absolutely not permissible for believing women to go on journey with any non-mahrem, no matter how good charactered the non-mahrem is.
Abu Hurairah narrated that The Messenger of Allah said:
“A woman is not to travel the distance of a day and a night unless she is accompanied by someone who is a Mahram.” (Sahih) tirmidhi[Vol. 1, Book 7, Hadith 1170]
Ibn 'Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) reported:
I heard Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) delivering a sermon and making this observation:" No person should be alone with a woman except when there is a Mahram with her, and the woman should not undertake journey except with a Mahram." A person stood up and said: Allah's Messenger, my wife has set out for pilgrimage, whereas I am enlisted to fight in such and such battle, whereupon he said:" You go and perform Hajj with your wife."
SAHIH MUSLIM [Book 7 : Hadith 3110]
Narrated by Umar ibn al-Khattab
The Prophet (saws) said, "Whenever a man is alone with a (non-mehram)woman, the Shaytaan makes the third." AT-TIRMIDHI[Vol. 4, Book 7, Hadith 2165 / Arabic: Book 33, Hadith 2318]
Dear sister, this is my humble request, to fear Allah and seek repentance of Allah for the crime of taking journey with the non-mahrems and avoid/stop taking your journey with non-mahrems. If one continues to violate the commands of Allah, then know, there is greater wrath of Allah on those who violate the commands of Allah.
Dear sister, ‘a women cannot travel without a mahram’, is because so long as she has no-one to protect her, it is quite possible that she may be exposed to or subjected to something which is (Islamically) dangerous during her journey.
And Allah alone knows the best.
I ask Allah to make this a sincere effort, seeking his pleasure, and I ask him to grant us refuge in him from the evils within ourselves, and that in our deeds. I ask him to grant us success in achieving whatever pleases him; And May Allah Shower His blessings and mercy upon our beloved Prophet
Muhammad (pbuh), his family and his Companions and on all those who follow him until the final hour.
