Question & Answer
Phone Rings while in prayer

I m praying isya in congregation my hand phone goes on and I had to reach in my sling bag to turn it off does this nullify my prayer or invalidate it

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

We begin with Allah’s blessed name, we praise him and we glorify him, seek his forgiveness and ask him to guide us. Whoever Allah guides, None can lead astray and whoever he misguides, None can guide. There is no power and no strength except from Allah, The most high, the Most great, the most powerful. We bear witness that there is no one worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers. We pray for peace and blessings on all the noble messengers and in particular on the last of them all “the blessed prophet Mohammad (pbuh)”

Here we assume that you were wearing sling bag during salah.

Allah says in the glorious quran:
الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي صَلَاتِهِمْ خَاشِعُونَ

“ Prosperous indeed are the believers who are humble in their prayers”Quran[ 23:1-2]

In Salah one is required to stand in humbleness of both heart and the body, and be far from the things that might distract or disturb ones Salah.

In the above verse of the glorious Quran, “Khashi`un” means those with fear and with tranquility, and “Khushu” in prayer is only attained by the one who has emptied his heart totally and absolutely, who does not pay attention to anything else besides prayer, and who prefers it above all else.

Narrated 'Aisha: the Prophet prayed in a Khamisa (a square garment) having marks. During the prayer, he looked at its marks. So when he finished the prayer he said, "Take this Khamisa of mine to Abu Jahm and get me his Inbijaniya (a woolen garment without marks) as it (the Khamisa) has diverted my attention from the prayer." SAHIH AL-BUKHARI[Vol:1, Book:8, hadith:369]

Thus from the above guidance one should clean oneself both internally and externally from the thoughts or from the things that might distract or divert ones attention from the prayer.

Dear brother today we are equipped with mobile phones and they go with us where ever we go,so a believer should make it a habit to switch off his device, before the prayer to prevent oneself and to prevent other believers from getting disturbed while in prayer. However if one forgets to switch off ones mobile phone before the prayer and the mobile phone starts to ring during the prayer, then one should immediately turn it off, and this slight movement in the interest of prayer does not nullify ones prayer.

The prayer will nullifies or becomes void if one is Intentionally making many motions.
An-Nawawi says: "If a person performs a lot of actions that are not part of the salah, he invalidates his salah, and, on this point, there is no difference of opinion. If the acts are few, then they do not invalidate the salah and, on this point, there also is no difference of opinion. This is the exact position. And Allah alone knows the best.

I ask Allah to make this a sincere effort, seeking his pleasure, and I ask him to grant us refuge in him from the evils within ourselves, and that in our deeds. I ask him to grant us success in achieving whatever pleases him; And May Allah Shower His blessings and mercy upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), his family and his Companions and on all those who follow him until the final hour.
