Question & Answer
Reciting selawat(DAROOD) Before reciting surah yaasiin?

Before reciting surah yaasiin do we have to read anything like selawat or alfatihah?

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

We begin with Allah’s blessed name, we praise him and we glorify him, seek his forgiveness and ask him to guide us. Whoever Allah guides, None can lead astray and whoever he misguides, None can guide. There is no power and no strength except from Allah, The most high, the Most great, the most powerful. We bear witness that there is no one worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers. We pray for peace and blessings on all the noble messengers and in particular on the last of them all “the blessed prophet Mohammad (pbuh)”

To the best of our knowledge, neither our beloved prophet (pbuh) nor any of the companion recited salawat (DAROOD) before reciting surah yasin. Neither is it compulsory to recite surah al-fathia before reciting surah yasin, however If one wishes to recite surah al-fathia before reciting surah yasin there is absolutely no harm. And a believer can send darood any time one wishes, as Allah says in Quran:

"Allah and His Angels send blessings on the Prophet: O ye that believe! Send ye blessings on him, and salute him with all respect." QURAN[33:56]

Thus Allah commands The believers to send blessings and greeting to the beloved prophet(pbuh).

If one says that reciting darood or al-fathia before surah yasin is compulsory or that it brings more rewards, then with an iota of doubt one is inventing a new thing in the deen of al-Islam that has been completed on our beloved prophet (pbuh). If one brings, invents, adds or innovates any act or deed in religion which has not been specifically endorsed by Allah and His Messenger (pbuh), then it has to be a 'bida' or innovation & every innovation is an error and every error leads to crushing hellfire. And Allah alone knows the best.

I ask Allah to make this a sincere effort, seeking his pleasure, and I ask him to grant us refuge in him from the evils within ourselves, and that in our deeds. I ask him to grant us success in achieving whatever pleases him; And May Allah Shower His blessings and mercy upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), his family and his Companions and on all those who follow him until the final hour.
