Question & Answer

Am i addicted to porn?

a/a, dear sir, I have been in a habit of seeing porn for a long time and now a fear is rising in my mind, whether I am addict or not?

Answer:

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

We begin with Allah’s blessed name, we praise him and we glorify him, seek his forgiveness and ask him to guide us. Whoever Allah guides, None can lead astray and whoever he misguides, None can guide. There is no power and no strength except from Allah, The most high, the Most great, the most powerful. We bear witness that there is no one worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers. We pray for peace and blessings on all the noble messengers and in particular on the last of them all “the blessed prophet Mohammad (pbuh)”

walaykum-salam, dear brother,
Islamic teaching is focused on how to gain self control, in order to increase spiritual awareness & prepare the soul to accept Allah. The pornography is in direct opposite with the very heart of Islamic teaching. When a person falls in the trape of porn, he basically fails to control himself, so he becomes prisoner of his own physical needs at lowest level, it increases selfishness & locks his heart to mercy towards other people. Thus it directly contradicts sprit of islam

Some of the signs of porn addiction are as under:

1) You are unable to control or stop yourself from seeing porn.
2) You become compelled to see porn very often.
3) You keep the porn material stored, hidden from others for easy access in future time.
4) You spent much time in viewing or thinking about porn.
5) You become restless, if you are unable to access porn.
6) You get excitement in viewing porn and end up in masturbation.

If you say 'yes' to any of the above mentioned point then you are surely addicted to porn.

Allah says in the glorious Quran: Do not even go near 'zina' (fornication or adultery) for it is a very indecent thing and a very evil way! QURAN[17:32]

Say: the things that my Lord hath indeed forbidden are: shameful deeds, whether open or secret; sins and trespasses against truth or reason; assigning of partners to Allah, for which He hath given no authority; and saying things about Allah of which ye have no knowledge. QURAN[7:33]

Narrated by Anas ibn Malik ...That he heard the Messenger of Allah (saws) say: 'The eye commits 'zina', and the palm of the hand, the foot, the body, the tongue and private part of the body confirm it or deny it.' ABU DAWOOD[Book 41 : Hadith 4886]

Narrated by Ibn Abbas I have not seen a thing resembling 'lamam' (minor sins) than what Abu Huraira narrated from the Prophet (saws) who said "Allah has written for the children of Adan their share of adultery which he commits inevitably. The adultery of the eyes is the sight (to gaze at a forbidden thing), the adultery of the tongue is the talk, and the inner self wishes and desires and the private parts testify all this or deny it." SAHIH AL-BUKHARI[Vol. 8 :: Book 74 :: Hadith 260]

There is no doubt that hearts becomes rusty just as copper and silver become rusty. The polish for this rust is the dhikr of Allah. This is because dhikr is like a polish which polishes the heart like a shiny mirror. When dhikr is left, the rust returns. But when dhikr resumes, then the heart is again polished. And hearts become rusty due to two things:-

(i) neglecting remembering Allaah, and
(ii) committing sins.
The polish for these two things is:-

(i) seeking Allaah's forgiveness and
(ii) dhikr

So the first and the foremost thing you should do is to fell in sincere repentance before Allah and make a promise with Allah that you will never ever view any such material in future and you will surely find Allah most merciful and oft forgiving.

"Say, "O My servants who have transgressed greatly against themselves through sins! Do not despair of the Mercy of Allaah. Indeed Allaah forgives all sins to those who repent. Indeed He is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful." QURAN[39:54]

On the authority of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: Allah the Almighty said: O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great at it. It was related by at-Tirmidhi (also by Ahmad ibn Hanbal). Its chain of authorities is sound. And Allah alone knows the best.

I ask Allah to make this a sincere effort, seeking his pleasure, and I ask him to grant us refuge in him from the evils within ourselves, and that in our deeds. I ask him to grant us success in achieving whatever pleases him; And May Allah Shower His blessings and mercy upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), his family and his Companions and on all those who follow him until the final hour.
